The Greenfield Township Fire Department is committed to serving our residents
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our levy slogan defines our responsibility:

  • Prompt and Efficient Fire Service
  • Man Power and Equipment to Protect our residents

However, we cannot provide these services without the community's support.
Help us continue our "response ability" by voting YES on March 4th.

Why to VOTE YES on March 4th.

We lack the personnel to serve our community, if an
emergency call is already in progress.

  • We have 53 firefighter/EMT’s on the roster
    • 7 Full-time
    • 27 Part-Time
    • 19 Volunteer
  • Of these firefighter/EMT’s only 6 live in Greenfield Township
    • 2 live in Carroll
    • The Chief lives on Carroll Eastern 1 mile from Carroll
    • 1 lives on St. Rt. 158
    • 1 lives on Mt Zion Rd.
  • If current funding remains, we would only have 3 people on duty at any time. (Currently, we have four people on duty. We would lose one person!)
    • We are averaging over three EMS/Fire runs per day
    • EMS runs average 1.5 hours per run.
    • If a second emergency call happens while we are on our first call, we have NO ONE to respond. A medic or a fire crew from the another city or township would be dispatched.
    • Relying on other fire departments adds a minimum of 5 to 10 minutes to the response.
    • Adding this precious time to the response can make the difference in saving your life or containing a fire in your home in one room instead of losing the whole house.

Equipment Replacement

  • Some of our trucks are in ready to be replaced.
    • Our back-up fire engine is 28 years old. If our main fire engine is down for repairs, we will be responding in a truck with the dependability of a 28 year old vehicle.
    • A new fire engine is very expensive. (A minimum of $250,000)
    • Our back-up ambulance is 16 years old. If our main ambulance is down for repairs or worse, we will be responding in a truck with the dependability of a 16 year old vehicle.
    • A new ambulance is also very expensive. (More than $150,000)

Our Financial Condition

  • In December 2005 a 2 mill renewable levy EXPIRED.
    • Our annual budget was reduced by $125,000.00 by this expiration.
  • We have tried 4 times to run a 2.5 mill replacement levy which would have added $340,000 to our reduced budget - for an actual increase of $215,000.
    • This increase would have added a 5th person to our then daily roster. (An increase of one staff member) It would have also allowed for saving toward the purchase of a new fire engine and ambulance.
    • This levy would have cost the owner of a $100,000.00 home about $76 per year.
    • The voters have said NO all 4 times.
  • This March we hope to replace a permanent 4 mill levy with a new 4 mill levy.
    • The current 4 mill levy is only generating 2.9 mills of revenue. The new 4 mill levy will generate the full 4 mills.
    • This will increase the tax on a $100,000 home by about $33.00 per year.
    • This will add about $140,000.00 of new revenue to our budget.
    • This will get our budget back to where it was in 2005
    • This will allow us to keep 4 people on duty for now.
    • This will not allow for any additional savings for equipment replacement.

Please VOTE YES on March 4th.
